Golfers raise $30,000 to provide essential mental health services

September 11, 2023

Upstream Ottawa supporters had a great day of golfing on a beautiful August 31 at The Marshes, raising $30,000 for essential mental health and substance-use health services.

The tournament saw 128 golfers come out to raise funds for Upstream’s mission of providing community supports to youth and adults living with mental health and substance-use health challenges, to lead self-guided and fulfilling lives.

There were many returning sponsors, golfers, and prize donors at the tournament, plus 18 volunteers to run the day. Claridge Homes and The Ferguson Family Foundation were the lead silver sponsors.

Barre Construction, Richcraft, Oegema-Nicholson Insurance, Arnon Corporation and Ron Eastern Construction, Good Lookin’ Cleaning, Monolith Finishing, and Flash Photo Booth Ottawa were bronze sponsors.

Returning supporters, such as Teslica Ebike Ottawa and Camp Otterdale, provided generous prizes for live and silent auctions.

During the evening program, golfers heard from an eloquent speaker, Serena Lynch, about the important role Upstream services have played in her life.

“We had lots of fun on the golf course but we also heard a meaningful message about how important these services are, and we raised a lot of money."

“We are grateful to our sponsors, golfers and donors for standing up for mental health services in Ottawa. I'm already excited to make next year bigger and better.”

Upstream Classic seeks sponsors, prizes for its return to the Marshes

June 22, 2023

Upstream Ottawa is returning to The Marshes Golf Club for another memorable day of golf and fun in support of essential mental health services in our community.

The 2023 Upstream Classic Golf Tournament will be held on Thursday, August 31. Last year’s tournament, at the beautiful Marshes course, was a sellout and raised, $36,000, the most money on a single day in Upstream’s history.

Holes will feature several different games, as well as food and beverages. The evening will be hosted by Tournament Chair Jenni Condon, of the New Hot 89.9, and include a live and silent auction. There are several highly visible sponsorship opportunities available for this tournament, with a wide reach across the city.

To be part of this emerging charity tournament, through sponsorship or prize donations large or small, please contact Jenni Condon, at jcondon899@gmail.com or 613-863-3371, or email info@upstreamottawa.ca Established in 1985, Upstream Ottawa Mental Health Community Support offers support services and affordable housing options to persons with mental health and substance-use health challenges. Our goal is to help our clients reach a place of increased wellness, stability, and independence.

Upstream is funded for its core services by Ontario Health which in 2021 expanded that support, via the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, to include a Substance Abuse Program for African Canadian Caribbean Youth between the ages of 12 and 29.

Money raised in the golf tournament goes to services not covered by core government funding. These include: wellness programs that focus on connecting clients with a community of support; housing supports to ensure clients have a safe and affordable place to live; and help for clients whose lives have been interrupted by illness and are returning to school or work, or are starting work for the first time.

Further golf details and registration information are on Upstream’s website, www.upstreamottawa.ca.
